Message from the President

My dear and faithful friends of the Association,

In 1979 our Association was created following an urgent request from Sister Emmanuelle, who was determined to save the young rubbish collectors of Cairo, the “zabbaleens”.

In 1986, responding to my appeal, Sister Emmanuelle launched an all-out campaign to help the young orphans from South Sudan, victims of a civil war, who finished up as refugees having to fend for themselves in the capital, Khartoum.

This campaign has given birth to a number of programmes the success of which can make us all feel proud. We owe this success primarily to the generosity of our donors, the aptitude of our hard-working Kamal (our field representative who implements these projects), to the extraordinary charisma of Sister Emmanuelle, and also to the discreet and devoted voluntary members of our committee.

The object of this website is to explain, with the help of some photographs, what exactly we are doing in Sudan.

Since 1995 our Association has also turned its attention to the poor people in another country which faces great difficulties, Haiti. This is why we decided to support Jean-Claude François and the association he created, “Haiti-Cosmos”, by financing several projects in the Hinche Plateau. Jean-Claude involved himself personally in the field overseeing the projects we financed. But this is another story which is related in a different website.

Why this new site? Napoleon used to say that “money is the sinews of war”, but it is also vital for any social endeavour and nothing could be achieved without the precious money which you so generously and loyally provide. This is why we wish to keep you informed about how we use your gifts.

We hope that in reading this site you will be spurred to spread the aims and activities of our Association among your friends and that new donors will open their hearts and their wallets for these needy children!

May we be allowed to continue, with the help of the Good Lord and your own, to take care of our brothers and to give them hope for the future.

Your President
Michel G. Bittar
