THE SWISS ASSOCIATION OF THE FRIENDS OF SISTER EMMANUELLE

The Association is officially recognized as a public charity. Donations made to the Association are tax deductible in the canton of Geneva up to a limit established by the Government.

The Association was established in 1979 to support the activities of Sister Emmanuelle in the slums of Cairo. Since 1986, however, at the request of Sister Emmanuelle, it has turned its attention almost entirely to Sudan. Since 1995 it has also supported the activities of Haiti-Cosmos in the Hinche Plaine of Haiti.

The Association consists only of volunteers and its headquarters are generously provided free-of-charge by the family of one of its members, which also bears all the cost of telephone, fax, stationery and office equipment.

Every year a general meeting is organized at which the President presents a report of the Association’s activities, followed by the auditor’s report and the election or re-election of the Committee. The minutes of this meeting, together with the treasurer’s and auditor’s reports, are forwarded to the Cantonal tax authorities. They are also at the disposal of anyone interested.

The Swiss Association is supported in its activities in Sudan by other European Associations of the Friends of Sister Emmanuelle. Members of these Associations, as well as its own members, pay regular visits to their projects in the field. They always return marveling at the work being accomplished.
