Kamal Tadros
Our representative in Khartoum, Sudanese Deacon Kamal Tadros, is the local Secretary of the St. Vincent de Paul Society (officially recognized by the Sudanese Authorities). Kamal is also responsible for all projects financed by our Association in Sudan.
Kamal was also responsible for the organization and operation of the Save the Saveable programme of the Catholic Church from 1986 to 2002. Our Association helped set up this programme which, over the years, established over 90 schools or rakubas in the camps on the outskirts of Khartoum (see the projects description further on) and we have contributed significantly to its operation. In these schools some 52,000 children receive primary and secondary instruction.
Since 2003, for financial reasons, responsibility for the management of these schools has been transferred to parish committees. At the request of the Archbishop, however, Kamal will act as Advisor to the Archdioceses Office of the Secretary of Education which is in charge of these schools.
Kamal keeps the Association fully abreast of developments in the various projects. He brings to our attention the most urgent problems as they arise and renders detailed accounts concerning all expenses incurred. A quarterly newsletter, initially written by Sister Emmanuelle, but now prepared by the Association based on information received from Kamal, is sent to all members to keep them informed.
